Zardoz is more subversive than those other fantasy films - it predates them by 10 years and it’s about hippie utopias and manliness and violence and John Boorman of Deliverance and Excalibur fame directed it.
Those low-budget fantasy/ barbarian films were NEVER as awesome as their video covers/ posters.
Don’t forget “Beastmaster” and “Deathstalker”.
