I am really interested to see how he’s going to be when he returns. He had this ra-ra audience cheering him on and high-fiving all his stupid buffoonery, and now he’s gonna be sober and alert Al. I wonder how that would be like . . . Suddenly realize that most of your “fans” now are primitive goons. I hope he gets plugged in promptly with a good social and professional network of sober and intelligent people who push him creatively and challenge him intellectually. Otherwise, I’m thinking the novelty of seeing reality and life through unfogged lenses might wear thin right quickly.

Anyway . . . I hope Al is doing well. [According to Mrs. J’s FB posts a few days back] He’s out of detox now and in group sessions and such and making friends with everyone there. I am really interested to see how he’s going to be when he returns. He had this ra-ra audience cheering him on and high-fiving all his stupid buffoonery, and now he’s gonna be sober and alert Al. I wonder how that would be like . . . Suddenly realize that most of your “fans” now are primitive goons. I hope he gets plugged in promptly with a good social and professional network of sober and intelligent people who push him creatively and challenge him intellectually. Yeah, his Facebook page was fucking disgraceful, some of those idiots on there cheering his boozing. The man obviously has a serious problem and they feel they have to egg him on. I did point out a couple of times on there that they were revelling in his illness, but i think i was just pissing in the wind for the most part. It must be depressing for him to read that, if he’s sober enough to take any notice of it, or if he cares what his “fans” think. I wish him all the best with his recovery, i really hope he has the strength to get well and stay that way, but with fans like that who knows. It’s like seeing someone who’s gonna jump off a bridge and standing there encouraging them to leap. Awful.

I think everyone is wondering if these connections will be a chapter in his post-rehab adventures, and it will certainly be interesting, to say the least, if it does transpire . . .
I don’t expect them to all form a bowling team or anything, but even some attempted reach outs could be exciting.

There’s at least 2 dozen people who pre-date the Book Club era that are deserving of at least some outreach, if that indeed ever transpires. And oddly, I have been bowling with most of them.
I think its great someone is willing to help him.
I think the mind set that alcoholism and drug addiction is something to romanticize and find funny is perhaps the fatal flaw. You would think after Paul died the light would come on, then after Mikey died something would of clicked. I wish him well and hopes he becomes a better person but at the same time I have my reservations.
