1st Ministry song u ever heard

yeah it wasn’t the first time for me. but then again, i rarely like something instantly on the first/second listen. it has to be i dunno, a proper moment, mood, or something.

I’ve heard Everyday is Halloween and Cold Life as far back as I was born pretty much. My dad’s been a fan since some underground radio station that used to be around here played Cold Life in 81. He really doesn’t listen to anything after LORAH these days though.

everyday is halloween got played a lot on a local rochester ny indie station as well as q101 (a huge channel) in toronto back in the day. But it wasn’t until psalm 69 that i actually heard a full ministry album.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the time they were on beavis and butthead… a better AL impression I have yet to hear. beats the original NWO

I remember walking around at circuit city, knowing I wanted to buy something, but didn’t quite know what. Then decided i’d just get something i’ve never heard anymore. And two albums caught my eye. One was Mind, and the other was animositisomnia. I got mind, and at first I thought, “not bad, but whatever”. Later, I finally went back to it and thought “you know what? this is really fucking good!”. Then I got animositisomnia, which didn’t compare, but was still good. Then LORAH, which blew me away, then filth pig, and so on…

Never seen that. I do remember seeing “A Drug Against War” on the show once and laughing my ass off over Beavis’ “KILL EVERYTHING!”

Beavis wanted the kid to throw up, but was shocked and dismayed that he vomited blood.

I think the first song I ever heard was “We Believe”. Shortly after it came out. Great track. Been hooked ever since.

Krowe

I just like when the vocals kick in and buthead does a spot on perfect al impression…

ahhh those were the days

I first heard Ministry in July 1983. They were giving away these 12" vinyl record samplers from Arista called “Current Events” at my local Sam Goody. The sampler had tracks from A Flock of Seagulls, Krokus, Thompson Twins, Heaven 17 and MINISTRY. It featured two Ministry tracks “Revenge” and “Effigy.” Here is what the print on the record jacket said:

“Under the direction of singer-composer-musician Al Jourgensen, Chicago’s Ministry has, in just one year, made a reputation for invigorating, compelling rock. Their debut album on Arista - recorded in Boston with co-producers Ian Taylor (engineer for The Cars, Foreigner, Queen, etc.) and Vince Ely (former Psychedelic Furs) - is filled with provocative music that hits hard and cuts deep.”

The first I heard from them was the Psalm 69 cd. My cousin played them for me after he found out that I liked Nine Inch Nails. This was during 1997 when the lost highway soundtrack came out. After he played that he took me to his house and showed me Closure. My outlook on music was totally changed from that point on. Some time after that I heard Skinny Puppy and things changed once again.

first song was nursing home, in a portuguese radio show. I thought: “hmmm, this sounds interesting.” and then the man said: “Nursing Home, from the new Ministry Album.” Then I bought DSOTS. I loved it and then bought a box with LORAH, Mind and Psalm. I guess like everyone else in here, I changed my taste in Ministry through the years, but DSOTS kept always on top.

Over The Shoulder at a nightclub in the late 80’s. Funny watching people try to dance to that one.

LOL. You learned music backwards. [:)]

Hah! So did I. From Ministry, I discovered Skinny Puppy, and through them, I found things like Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle.

Stigmata in Hardware around 90 or 91

I noticed it but it was so new for me that I thought it was only a snippet made for the movie (as the sample is very short).
It’s funny because I had the same reaction for “Show me your spine” in Robocop a few years before.

Then, I heard Stigmata on the radio (circa 1991) and I connected the goddamned dots !

Althought for Show me your spine, I only discovered it was actually from a ministry side project something like 5 years later (thanx to prongs site).

In case is also one of my all time favorite record.
