New Ministry album - MORALE HYGIENE

I think it’s rad. I love that they’ve slowed it down and made it dark and groovy instead of just aggro speed metal. Has kind of a post-punk death rock vibe on a lot of it, like Sisters of Mercy, Love and Rockets, etc.
It’s a great album. I love the return of Al’s harmonica too, haha! Oh, and a bonus Jello appearance. I can’t really ask for more in 2021.

I’m with you ,man…and for all the reasons you mentioned…all the usuals will bemoan the fact it isn’t Land of Rape and Honey part 7 but if you sit around holding your breath for that you’ll turn blue and fucking die…it’s a fun record…Al slappin da bass too!!!

There was some talk in the “what are you listening to” thread.
Anyway, it’s just OK. It’s grown on me after a couple of listens, but it’s still not as good as the last one (though much better than the two prior to the last one).

Sensed a little Fields of the Nephilim in a couple of songs and some Sisters and even a little JAMC…really digging on 3rd listen…

I agree with this statement:

I am enjoying MH ever so slightly more than expected.

Lard tune is pretty standard as with the other tunes Jello & Al have released over the years. MH is not speed metal so that’s a good thing for me.

Amerikkkant wasn’t speed metal either, but I catch your drift…he seems to be moving away from that, which is refreshing…

Hey, is the “Quarantined Mix” of Alert Level any different from the album mix? Because they sound the same to me, the time difference is only two seconds, and they have the exact same amount of plays on Spotify…

Sounds the same to me

Btw , I think the inside of the cd booklet is great…the picture of the post-nuclear family mom except she has Al’s dreadlocks…I thought that was a hilariously nice touch…

Ist this the album that has names of all those pin buyers from the bandcamp thing?

Good lord. Was that part of the pin package? Those things were so stupid and they were $125 plus tax and shipping. I didn’t look at the insert credits very closely this time but if it was like Amerikkkant it will be very easy to miss. That one had a bunch of names all crammed into part of a single frame… and it was printed dark grey on slightly darker grey in a font so tiny you literally needed a magnifying glass or microscope to see it. It just looks like background shading to anyone not specifically searching for it.

I think im just going to ignore anything past 2004.
That really was the last real ministry as we know it.
The ministry name should have been changed after barker left.
It really is a whole other monster.

Tru dat…

I like it. I’ve only listened to it a couple times through, but I think I prefer it to Amerikkkant.

I’m playing it again and really dig it.
I like that it seems to have a distinct “vibe” and really works as a complete album. (My apologies if I said that before, as I’m having a bit of Deja Vu but think I may have said the same about other album(s) recently, so I don’t know).

I haven’t dissected the lyrical content, as that has been a real weakness of Ministry in recent years. But I find the wording this time (of the lyrics that actually stick with me) ominously vague enough that it doesn’t embarrass me like before. I like “Relapse” but the lyrics were so abhorrently dumb that I have to actively ignore them or embrace them ironically for the sheer pedantic idiocy.

Anyway, I think it’s a really cool album. For the people that shit on it or don’t find it interesting or enjoyable I guess I’m kind of at a loss for what else they want from it or were expecting. I feel like this is as good as we could ask for at this point in time.
Whatever.

For me it’s not a matter of expectations, I just found the album very uninspired. Phoned in. I hope the “arena rock” album he’s now talking about hits my ear better.

I did the bandcamp 320 download for 10 bucks, definitely should have done the torrent instead.

Long live 2004 & before.

This al jourgensen project(s) is a mental letdown.

Give me a slow grinding scarecrow anyday.

I finally bought it last week but still haven’t listened to it.
